Pirelli To Supply Dutch Supercar Challenge From 2014

Pirelli UK Motorsport is happy to announce a partnership with the Dutch-based International Supercar Challenge to supply tyres from its Didcot based Motorsport Technical Centre. This three year contract brings the Italian firm's involvement with motorsport championships across the globe to over 250.

Formed in 2001 and regularly attracting grids of up to 80, the Supercar Challenge features a wide range of supercars and provides thrilling race action as seven different classes of GT, touring cars and sportscars all compete against each other on the track. Last year's title went down to the wire with two drivers finishing the year tied on points but the 12th Dutch Supercar title was eventually awarded to the driver who had scored the most race wins.

F1 Film Rush: Call To Show The Truth About Smoking

Rush - the new film about the 1970's Formula One rivalry between drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda - is a sharp reminder of how the tobacco industry used sport to recruit new young smokers. The cars are plastered with Marlboro and John Player Special logos and colours while smoking is commonplace both indoors and out throughout the film. 

Edscha Builds New Plant In Russia

The international automotive supplier Edscha today laid the foundation stone for its new plant in Russia. At a formal ceremony Edscha CEO Torsten Greiner gave the go-ahead for the company's first Russian plant.

Starting in autumn 2014, Edscha will manufacture door hinges and other products for the Russian market in Togliatti, about 1,000 km southeast of Moscow. The company plans to employ more than 150 persons

there in the medium term.

Some 2.9 million passenger cars were sold in Russia in 2012. The country is one of the world's most dynamic automotive markets, with double-digit growth rates. Up to now Edscha has not had any production capacity here.

42 Points And Still Allowed To Drive

A woman from Isleworth, West London, accumulated 42 licence penalty points last year, according to the latest figures from the DVLA.  The points were all for failing to disclose the identity of the driver between 26 May and 21 December 2012.
